[UPDATED] Nobel Prize Winner Calls for Gender Segregation in Labs so Ladies Won’t Fall in Love with Him, Is an Idiot

WELL THEN.

The falling in love with him thing is dumb, and also super gross. Like, you’re talking about your employees and mentees. Ewww.

But the crying thing strikes a little close to home. I have cried a couple times when things got unbearable in the lab. When I was being belittled, talked over, and generally screwed over by an apprenticeship system that does not give a fuck about its trainees.

Boys are not allowed to cry.  Instead, they learn to yell and threaten people. Or storm off in a huff because they are being “disrespected.” (I have had three male coworkers quit in exactly this way.) 

So, like, crying is not actually the most terrible thing ever.
