Yes! I learned something similar, only from my daughter, that when she was a teenager and apt to push my buttons, I needed to process that with someone else and come back to her with unpushed buttons. (we get on great since then, whew!)
I have to remember that not every single thing needs to go to the exact right perfect place to be purged, some of it can just go to the goodwill. But having places like reader to reader for books, and suit up/dress for success for work clothes, etc. is very helpful.
