fandomnumbergeneratorMy daughter (who is 3 and otherwise only likes boy stuff) LOVES Nerdy Nummies – to the point that in the bath last night, she asked me for an extra washcloth so she could have two different colors of fondant for the pretend cake she was making.
I love cooking, but I’m a about a million times more likely to make my own vinegar than to sculpt a unicorn out of fondant, so I’m fascinated but a little baffled by the kind of cooking Rosanna Pansino is doing, which seems more like a Martha Stewart craft project (though with an internet meme instead of a New England summer home aesthetic) than actual geeky cooking.
As a business person, I have a lot of respect for her. Her videos have hits in the six and seven figures, so she clearly knows how to promote herself. I’m sure the Manic Pixie Dream Girl persona and her fangirl interests make her nerd-boy catnip, and more power to her.
And if she wants to identify herself as a nerd, I don’t want to second guess her, but it seems like a weird girl ghetto within the nerd foodie community. Like, boys make Arduino based sous vide machines and girls make Angry Bird cupcakes.
